Rebalancing the Future Research Ecosystem: From Vision to Action, hosted by the Government–University–Industry–Philanthropy Research Roundtable (GUIPRR) and the National Science Board (NSB), will bring together leaders across sectors to address urgent needs and structural gaps in the U.S. research enterprise. With an emphasis on industry and philanthropy, the summit will launch a 12–18-month strategy to accelerate research through speed, scale, and coordinated investment. Sessions will explore public–private alignment, workforce development, national security, and economic incentives. The summit will emphasize producing a concise set of practical, high-impact actions with clearly defined responsibilities, and will translate these outcomes into an accessible format that supports communication with both decision-makers and the public.

A committee of the U.S National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will conduct a consensus study that will seek to upgrade the scientific literature by recommending improvements to the processes used to correct errors in scientific articles, including editorial expressions of concern, errata, corrigendum, retractions, and other actions. The committee will examine international practices, as the scientific research enterprise is global.

As part of this process, this session will provide a platform for experts and stakeholders across Europe to share perspectives on the challenges, barriers, innovations, and promising practices related to strengthening the correction of the scientific record. This session will take place virtually on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, from 2:00–5:00 PM CEST (Paris / Rome / Berlin / Amsterdam); 1:00–4:00 PM BST (London); 8:00–11:00 AM US Eastern Time (Washington, DC).

The congressionally mandated Committee on Sexual Assault at Sea held a public information gathering session on September 23, 2025.

The purpose of this session was to bring together representatives from victim advocacy organizations and/or those working to support survivors. Speakers shared insights from their work that are relevant to the committee’s ongoing review and assessment of existing evidence on challenges and prospective solutions associated with sexual assault at sea aboard Coast Guard vessels. Speakers reflected on how their organizations’ services and expertise intersect with the study’s statement of task, especially regarding survivor support, access to care, victim rights, and advocacy, in unique or isolated settings such as vessels at sea or while deployed away from home port.

The Committee chair also provided an update on another information gathering activity. She noted that on the third day of the August committee meeting, the Committee visited a US Coast Guard, 270’ medium endurance cutter in Portsmouth, VA. In discussion with the vessel’s Executive Officer and the region’s Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, the Committee learned about topics like vessel operations and processes for responding to sexual assault. The Committee saw parts of the vessel’s interior, including the galley and sickbay.

A second site visit to a vessel in Alameda, CA will occur in conjunction with the Committee’s fourth meeting.
