A Pragmatic Future for NAEP
Containing Costs and Updating Technologies
This new report, from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, recommends changes to bolster the future success of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) by identifying areas where federal administrators could take advantage of savings, such as new technological tools and platforms as well as efforts to use local administration and deployment for the tests. Additionally, the report recommends areas where the program should clearly communicate about spending and undertake efforts to streamline management. Finally, the report provides recommendations to increase the visibility and coherence of NAEP's research activities.
This briefing was for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on March 24, 2022 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
