Protecting Maternal Heart Health:
Prevention and Care Before, During, and After Pregnancy
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) requested that the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convene an expert committee to identify clinical preventive services to reduce pregnancy-related cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The study committee was also asked to assess how HRSA programs can support access and uptake of clinical preventive services and identify research priorities. The resulting report presents the committee's conclusions and recommendations, including two clinical preventive services supported for implementation now.
A policy brief for the report can be found here.
This briefing was for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on April 21, 2026 and can be found, in its entirety, as well as with other derivatives, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
