U.S. - Egypt Science and Technology Joint Fund
The U.S. - Egypt Science and Technology (S&T) Joint Fund was established under an agreement between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt to strengthen scientific and technological capabilities between both countries.
On March 26, 2025, USAID informed the National Academy of Sciences that it should terminate all work on this activity. U.S. implementation of this activity has ended and any inquiries related to Egyptian activities under this program should be directed to the Egyptian Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority (stdf.eg).

Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will assist the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) by providing program implementation and management support for activities conducted under the U.S.- Egypt Science & Technology Cooperative Agreement (“S&T Agreement”). The purpose of the S&T Agreement is to increase and strengthen cooperation between researchers and institutions in Egypt and the U.S. in order to contribute to the human and economic development of Egypt. Specific program goals include:
1) promoting scientific research by training the next generation of youth and female scientists and expanding collaboration between U.S. and Egyptian public and private sector institutions;
2) increasing the role of science, technology, and innovation in promoting economic growth to address challenges including, but not limited to, sustainable development, public health, and food, energy and water security; and
3) expanding activities in applied research and technology commercialization, with an innovation grants program to support private sector competitiveness that contributes towards economic growth.
NASEM activities include support for scientific reviews of proposals, technical and administrative grant management of projects selected for funding, and development of new scientific activities, including innovation and entrepreneurship that promote and advance bilateral S&T goals in the U.S. and/or Egypt.
