Description
A National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine planning committee will convene a two-day, virtual, public workshop to revisit findings from Changing Expectations for the K-12 Teacher Workforce: Policies, Preservice Education, Professional Development, and the Workplace in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The workshop will bring in experts from the original study committee, as well other leading scholars on the teacher workforce, to help explore how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed (or not changed), what teachers need, and where the teacher workforce is vulnerable.
The workshop will address the following questions:
• Reflecting on the conclusions and recommendations articulated in the original report, what are the new challenges facing the workforce?
• How do teacher preparation needs change in this virtual or hybrid environment?
• How are teacher preparation programs adapting to meet these needs?
• Have the high-priority areas of action and research needs identified in the original report changed as a result of the new landscape brought on by the pandemic?
A rapporteur-authored workshop proceedings in brief will be subject to institutional review.
