Description

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will plan and conduct a hybrid colloquium in Spring 2022 that will focus on how to build a more effective and equitable science communication ecosystem, advance the use of evidence-based practices, and determine next steps for the science of science communication and engagement. The 2022 colloquium will bring together researchers and practitioners in science communication along with community members and leaders to illuminate the challenges of communicating science to a broad range of communities, particularly in times of crisis. The event will clarify the key issues in equitable science communication and engagement, point to relevant lines of evidence, elevate promising approaches, and provide a forum for relationship building across sectors. Sessions will be designed to generate new insights about equitable science communication and facilitate new partnerships between researchers, practitioners and community leaders. Key themes of the colloquium include: 1) Taking Stock of the Complex Ecosystem for Communicating Science; 2) Community Engagement: Leveraging Strengths, Developing Solutions, and Building Capacity; and, 3) Science Communication for an Equitable and Resilient Future: Opportunities.
