Description
A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (National Academies) will organize and execute a public workshop to bring together relevant experts to review the current state and development of innovative, analytical, and statistical methods and models that have potential utility for multiple fields within the social, behavioral, and economic sciences. The goal of this workshop is to focus discussions on future needs and methodological frontiers to identify what innovations, approaches, and considerations deserve more research attention and are expected to benefit more than a single discipline. The committee will consider potential developments in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and methods for mining and making greater use of new, blended, and other big data sources for social, behavioral, and economic research, as well as potential developments in survey methods, psychometrics, causal modeling, and other areas. The planning committee will define the specific topics to be addressed in consultation with the National Science Foundation, develop the agenda, and select and invite speakers and other participants. After the workshop, a proceedings of the workshop-in-brief will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with National Academies' guidelines and shall be released to the public.
