The Standing Committee for the Review the DRI Framework willl hold a half-day virtual open session on ‘Assessing Human Requirements for Carbohydrate’ on March 7, 2023 from 9 am to 2 pm Eastern.

Description

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Standing Committee on Review of the Dietary Reference Intake Framework will organize a public meeting, held as an online conference. The meeting will be used to inform the sponsors about the best approach to systematic reviews used to assess human requirements for carbohydrate as part of a new review of Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for macronutrients. Presentations at the public meeting will include overviews of the evidence on:
· Relevant biological roles for dietary carbohydrate.
· Physiologic effects of low carbohydrate intake.
· Indicators of carbohydrate adequacy and inadequacy.
· Indicators relevant to subpopulations including racial/ethnic groups and maternal and infant populations; and
· Relevant health conditions prevalent in the population including obesity and diabetes.
