Description
A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and host a public workshop to examine global payments as a potential way to finance the delivery of high quality whole person health care to improve population health.
The workshop will feature invited presentations and panel discussions on topics that may include:
• the potential for primary care to enhance the whole health and well-being of individuals and populations, and strategies for achieving that goal
• examples of payment models for care of the whole person, which aim to produce equitable population health outcomes, improved patient and clinician experience, and reduced per capita costs.
• the characteristics of the U.S. health delivery and financing systems that made it challenging to sustain health care delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic.
• examples of advanced practice models that are addressing those challenges.
• the experience of care models using global and capitated financing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The planning committee will develop the agenda for the workshop sessions, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. A Proceedings in Brief of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
