Over the past fifteen years, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine have convened multiple committees consisting of leading experts in biomedical science and ethics, yielding a number of reports of high impact and consequence. The work of these committees could, if taken together, help illuminate core principles and, potentially, a useful analytic framework for biomedical ethics. For the proposed activity, staff will review and synthesize relevant reports, highlighting common themes, core conclusions, overarching principles, and commonalities among their recommendations.
The product will be subject to an appropriate review process that will be overseen by the HMD executive office.
