Description
An ad hoc committee will plan and convene a two-day public workshop that will explore current and emerging knowledge on the food and nutrition policy implications of the increasing environmental constraints on the food system. The workshop agenda will feature expert presentations and discussion to: provide an overview of the relationships between environmental health, human health, and food choices and examine practices that are mutually beneficial; understand how environmental sustainability can be incorporated into dietary guidance in a potentially higher priced food environment; consider projected scenarios for the year 2050 in terms of production methods; food availability, affordability, and safety; population changes; and predicted environmental and health outcomes; and discuss options and approaches - including identifying research priorities, policy implications, and drivers of consumer behavior and communication - that will enable sustainable food choices. The planning committee will develop the workshop agenda, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. Experts will be drawn from public and private sectors and from academic institutions to include a diversity of evidence-based perspectives. After the workshop, an individually-authored summary of the event will be prepared by a designated rapporteur.
