A number of inefficiencies and areas in need of improvement have been identified in the translation process; however, improving the translation of genomic discoveries will require collaborative efforts among stakeholders to encourage innovative and transformational research. The Roundtable on Translating Genomic-Based Research for Health hosted a workshop to examine how basic science can best be positioned to foster successful translation of early genomic discoveries. The presentations and discussions explored the challenges in and identified potential opportunities for improving the efficacy of the translation process.

Description
An ad hoc planning committee will plan and conduct a public workshop to discuss improving the efficiency and effectiveness of translating basic genomic discoveries. The goal of the workshop will be to advance discussions among a broad array of stakeholders, including academic and clinical researchers, policy makers, industry representatives, and others. The planning committee will develop the workshop agenda, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions.
