Description
A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a one-day public workshop on the impacts of supply chain disruptions on vulnerable communities. The workshop will convene experts from local government, the private sector, the philanthropic community, academia, and nongovernmental organizations to explore and address these impacts on underserved and underrepresented populations (including Black, Indigenous, Latino, and other communities of color), as well as older adults and rural communities. Workshop participants will also share their perspectives on the balance between resilience and sustainability, as lean supply chains face more frequent disruptions, and discuss various efforts to address these impacts equitably before, during, and after they hit affected communities. Discussions will include those relevant to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to creating greater resilience for communities and ensuring sustainable consumption and production approaches. A Proceedings of a Workshop--in Brief will be prepared by a designated rapporteur.
