7:30 – 8:00 Arrival & Registration
8:00 – 8:30 Introductions & Workshop Overview
- Project Introduction: The research team will provide an overview of the project, the project objectives, and work to date.
- Introductions: Researchers, Panel, and Participants introduce themselves, their roles, and their interest in the workshop.
- Workshop Overview: Brief presentation on the workshop objectives, expected workshop outcomes, and structure of the workshop.
8:30-9:30 Guidebook Structure, Chapter 1, & Chapter 2
- Guidebook Structure: The research team will present an overview of the guidebook’s layout, including chapters, sections, and key themes.
- Chapter 1: The research team will present a summary of Chapter 1 which focuses on foundational concepts and methodologies for utility data collection and management as well as definitions and background of utility depiction challenges and approaches. A discussion with participant feedback will follow.
- Chapter 2: The research team will present a summary of Chapter 2 which focuses on the need for the guidelines with emphasis on the impact that depiction and use of utility data can have on project success. A discussion with participant feedback will follow.

9:45-10:45 Guidebook Chapter 3 & Chapter 4

- Chapter 3: The research team will present a summary of Chapter 3 which focuses on utility data needs for successful depiction and use. A discussion with participant feedback will follow.
- Chapter 4: The research team will present a summary of Chapter 4 which focuses on depiction effective practices and examples. A discussion with participant feedback will follow.
10:45-11:45 Guidebook Chapter 5 & Remainder of the Guidebook
- Chapter 5: The research team will present a summary of Chapter 5 which covers miscellaneous utility depiction topics such as resource considerations and investments, value and return, and depiction’s connection to coordination. A discussion with participant feedback will follow.
- Remaining Guidebook Material: The research team will present a summary of references and appendices of the guidebook. A more detailed review of the guidebook’s tools will be discussed in the afternoon. A discussion with participant feedback will follow.
11:45-12:45 Lunch in Keck Center
1:00-3:00 BYOE (Bring your own examples!) – Show & Tell Round
- Show & Tell Round: Continuation of the previous session, allowing more participants to showcase their examples and engage in discussions. Provide examples of line styles/legend for utility features.
3:00-3:15 Break
3:15-4:00 Tool Review & Evaluation
- Tool Review: The research team will present the tools developed to accompany the guidebook, along with demonstrations. The workshop attendees will have an opportunity to use the tools within an example exercise.
- Evaluation: This will be an interactive session where participants evaluate the tools based on criteria such as usability, accuracy, and efficiency.
4:00-4:30 Feedback & Wrap-Up
- Feedback: Participants provide feedback on the workshop, discussing the information they noted as valuable and areas for improvement.
- Wrap-Up: Summary of key takeaways, next steps, and closing remarks.
The attendees for the workshop included in-person and online members. These attendees included research panel members, DOT personnel, and DOT and utility consultants.
