Description
A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and host a virtual public workshop that will examine the intersection of mental health and substance use disorders, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities of color, and structural racism. The workshop will feature invited presentations and panel discussions on topics that may include:
- The epidemiology of mental health and substance use disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic in the overall population as well as a specific focus on the impact of the pandemic on communities of color
- The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to health care and the delivery of services for people with mental health and substance use disorders, particularly in communities of color
- The behavioral health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health care workforce, and it’s influence on access to services for mental health and substance use disorders, particularly in communities of color
The planning committee will develop the agenda for the workshop sessions, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. A proceedings-in-brief of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
