Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and execute town hall events and presentations across the U.S. to disseminate the findings of the 2019 report, "Minority Serving Institutions: America's Underutilized Resource for Strengthening the STEM Workforce" from the Committee on Closing the Equity Gap: Revitalizing STEM Education and Workforce Readiness Programs in the Nation's Minority-Serving Institutions. Events will convene key stakeholders (faculty and key administrators from MSIs, regional business leaders, and local, state, and federal government agency officials) to discuss report recommendations to strengthen STEM education and research initiatives on MSI campuses. Participants will also discuss:
- Concrete strategies for enabling stronger, more productive partnerships between business/government agencies and MSIs
- Evidence-based models, programs, and strategies at MSIs that are effective in increasing STEM workforce preparation, and the potential impact for the federal research agencies; and
- Ideas and strategies that bridge the gaps (e.g., knowledge gap, capacity gap) between the MSI community and federal agencies and other research entities;
