Description
A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and execute a two-day public workshop that will bring together an interdisciplinary group of experts to discuss the role played by midlife factors in linking early life disadvantage to later life cognitive health and dementia risk. The workshop will:
- Identify key research gaps and priorities regarding the social pathways and related structural and institutional factors that connect early life exposures with later life cognitive outcomes; and
- Identify key data needs in existing and new aging studies to support research and generate knowledge on mid-life social processes and related structural and institutional factors to address early life exposures driving Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) inequities.
The planning committee will define the specific topics to be addressed in consultation with the National Institute on Aging, develop the agenda, and select and invite speakers and other participants. After the workshop, a Proceedings of the Workshop summarizing the presentations and discussions will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
