Description
An ad hoc planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine will organize and convene a 2-day public workshop in Washington, D.C. Through this workshop, participants from across sectors will explore the evolution and implementation of crisis standards of care (CSC) planning, since the publication of the NASEM report Guidance for Establishing Crisis Standards of Care for Use in Disaster Situations: A Letter Report in 2009.
Specific topics that may be discussed in this workshop include:
*The experiences, successes and challenges of planning for and implementing CSC at the local, state and federal level;
*Shifts in planning assumptions as a result of specific operational experiences, changes to treatment protocols, availability of new or different resources, and advances in technology;
*Accepted issues and outstanding challenges of a legal and ethical nature;
*Potential focus areas for continued development and implementation of crisis standards of care plans for the next ten years.
The planning committee will develop the agenda for the workshop sessions, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. Workshop proceedings will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines, based on the presentations and discussions held during the workshop. The proceedings will be subject to appropriate review procedures before release.
