Section 1: Operational Environment

  1. How would you describe your agencyʼs traffic signal environment?
    • Is it urban, suburban, or rural?
    • Does it consist mainly of grid networks, corridors, or isolated intersections?
    • Is the system primarily unimodal or multimodal?
  2. How does your agency demonstrate leadership in traffic signal operations and management?

Section 2: Traffic Signal Management Program

  1. How does your agency determine operational goals and strategies for traffic signal management?
  2. Does your agency have clearly defined procedures for using automated traffic signal performance measures (ATSPMs) to achieve these goals and objectives?

Section 3: ATSPM Deployment and Use Cases

  1. Can you describe the process of ATSPM deployment, including who initiated the conversations, helped secure funding, and how the decision-making process unfolded?

    5.1 Can you provide more details on funding?

  2. What steps were taken (if any) to develop and train your workforce on ATSPMs?
  3. What were the most significant challenges your agency faced during ATSPM deployment?
  4. What obstacles are currently hindering the effective use of ATSPMs? Challenges and issues associated with the transition from traditional reactive traffic signal timing to active approaches using tools like ATSPMs.
  5. Can you describe the system integration process for ATSPMs (e.g., central system, vendor product, cloud service, SPM-specific service, or consultant support)?
  6. How does your agency use ATSPMs for day-to-day signal operations and maintenance? For example, full-scale optimization, fine-tuning, getting TMCs, maintenance/troubleshooting.
