Additional Resources

This section provides several relevant sources for SPM solutions.

Relevant Ongoing NCHRP Efforts

At the time of this writing, two relevant NCHRP projects are still ongoing:

  1. NCHRP Project 17-109, “Crash Modification Factors for Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures.” The anticipated completion data for the research was October 2025.
  2. NCHRP Project 07-32, “Guide for Long-Term Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measurement Systems Applications.” The anticipated completion data for this research is October 2026.

ATSPM Monthly Calls

As discussed previously, FHWAʼs ATSPM monthly call initiative represents an important source for sharing knowledge among practitioners, researchers, and signal controller and detection vendors. Table 11 presents an overview of monthly calls for the period March 2022 to April 2025. Access to the presentations and meetings can be found on the UDOT GitHub account.

High-Resolution Data Enumerations

Traffic signal performance assessment relies on detailed sensor and controller data, which was encoded in a system developed in 2012. In 2020, this system was updated with minor changes to specific event codes following stakeholder input from a multistate study:
