Optimizing the Process for Establishing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans:
The Selection Process
This new report, from the National Academies, is the first of two requested by Congress in P.L. 114-113 that will review the processes used to develop the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This report examines how the selection process for the federal advisory committee that suggests revisions to the DGAs could be improved to provide more transparency, eliminate bias, and include committee members with a range of viewpoints.
These briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on February 3, 2017 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
