Description
The Gulf Research Program will appoint an ad-hoc committee to plan a one-day workshop to explore the potential of art/science collaborations in Gulf of Mexico communities to: achieve creative problem solving; engage broader audiences; communicate science; and elevate community voices in dialogues that address complex topics related to climate change, environmental changes along the Gulf Coast, and impacts to the health and resilience of Gulf communities. The workshop will be designed to:
- Understand the role that artists and the arts community can play in collaborating with scientists to support and inspire a healthy and resilient future across Gulf Coast communities;
- Explore the wide variety of creative and artistic processes currently being employed that connect, educate, and communicate science to regional stakeholders and communities;
- Elucidate existing evidence, best practices, and methodologies for art/science collaboration; and
- Learn about ways to develop productive partnerships and collaborations to overcome barriers that could exist between creative practitioners and scientists to ensure mutually exciting and successful activities.
A workshop proceedings-in-brief will be produced in accordance with National Academies guidelines.
