Funding sources for developing truck parking infrastructure typically come from a variety of federal, state, local, and private sector entities. Public funding for truck parking continues to grow, but most truck parking funding has been limited or allocated to public truck parking facilities, such as safety rest areas. While programs may be open to funding private entities or public-private partnerships for constructing truck parking facilities, examples have been limited.
U.S. DOT. Through various grant programs, the U.S. DOT provides funding for transportation-related infrastructure. For truck parking, both FHWA and the FMCSA have been coordinating to develop eligibility requirements for funding truck parking projects. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act/Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the current transportation bill, contains provisions for funding the construction of truck parking as follows:
