The U.S. Gulf Coast region has been a place of migration, adaptation, and displacement for hundreds of years. Figure E-1 is a visual timeline that includes some defining moments in the region’s history that are critical to understanding deeply rooted community perspectives on displacement and relocation. The timeline identifies early settlements, colonial expansion, plantation slavery, forced removal, and other landmark dates of injustice and immigration. This visual timeline is a supplement to Chapters 3 and 4 but relevant to the report as a whole.
