Please join the National Academies on December 3, 2025 for an information-gathering session on radiation exposure to flight crewmembers aboard commercial airlines.

The committee on assessing radiation exposure, health outcomes, and mitigation strategies for flight crewmembers will hear from researchers and organizations that monitor radiation exposure of flight crew. Invited speakers will present on topics related to the development of dosimeters for aviation environments and presentation regarding radiation monitoring in aviation environments.

There will be an opportunity to submit public comment via a Slido. The committee will also take public comment to the committee email at refc@nas.edu.

Advancements in 3D model-based design are reshaping how transportation projects are reviewed, managed, and delivered. TRB will host a webinar on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that will share new practices developed through NCHRP Project 10-113 that help state departments of transportation (DOTs) modernize design quality management for the digital age. The session will outline a new guide for 3D model-based design and digital delivery, featuring process and product control approaches, open data standards, and a five-step review process to audit and certify digital designs. Presenters will demonstrate tools that support implementation and discuss how agencies can apply these practices to strengthen design quality management and improve project delivery outcomes.

Without a clear governance policy to guide how that data is collected, updated, and maintained, airports risk inconsistent or ineffective data management. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern that provided guidance to airports on how to create geospatial data governance policies and procedures. High-visibility enforcement (HVE) campaigns are effective in improving traffic safety. However, many agencies face challenges in evaluating their impact due to limited resources, data, and analytical expertise. TRB will host a webinar on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Eastern that will introduce practical tools to assess these campaigns. Presenters will describe frameworks and methodologies for evaluating HVE effectiveness, including data visualization tools, before-and-after analyses, traditional statistical analyses, and spatial/temporal analyses that identify trends and relationships. Presenters will also discuss crash modification factors developed through the project to help agencies better understand the safety impacts of their enforcement efforts.

Nighttime transit supports workers, businesses, and communities that operate beyond the 9-to-5. Safe, reliable nighttime service is increasingly important to build ridership and improve equitable access. TRB will host a webinar on Monday, November 10, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that will explore findings from TCRP Synthesis 181: Planning and Operations Initiatives to Support Nighttime Transit Ridership. This session will highlight how agencies are prioritizing nighttime service, addressing challenges, and implementing innovative practices to meet the needs of late-shift workers and the nighttime economy. Presenters will share examples of safety initiatives like targeted enforcement, operational solutions like improving infrastructure and customer engagement, and lessons learned to support strategies for ridership growth.
