GALAXY NGC 4603

Leaving our Milky Way Galaxy, we travel to another spiral galaxy called NGC 4603. It lies 108 million light years from us.

This 1999 image was taken by J. Newman (University of California, Berkeley) using the HST. In Figure 12, we see a bright galactic center and the spiral arms of stars. The galaxy, with spiral arms, is in tactile outline. Stars are shown as raised dots and bumpy texture.
