Imagine that we could place the Earth near a solar prominence. Would the Earth be larger or smaller than the prominence? It turns out that prominences are so large that they would dwarf our tiny home in space.

The next illustration shows a prominence erupting on the Sun as seen by SOHO. A small open circle on the lower left portion of the picture represents how small the Earth would be, compared to the prominence.
